These Air Fryer Pierogies are ultra easy to make and come out perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside every time - without all the added oil of frying!
So I'm not a total health nut, as you guys know. But I do try and eat healthier during the week because I do find health to be important.
Plus, I hate the way deep frying makes the house smell -it stinks of oil for days!
Enter the Air Fryer...this thing is amazing. It crisps food up perfectly (I mean these pierogies are AWESOME) with having to add much more than a quick spray of oil - like with these air fryer crab cakes, air fryer tater tots and air fryer potstickers we have learned to love so much.
This recipe is ultra simple - air fry your pierogies and some onion slices (if you want), and serve them with some sour cream. Or this delicious remoulade sauce or even this red gravy (I really like them with this - and that remoulade is amazing on these air fryer french fries!).
What is an Air Fryer?
The Air Fryer is a healthier alternative to frying foods. It's basically a small, powerful convection oven that sits on your countertop.
It circulates hot air around the food you're cooking, which is what gives it that crisp texture that mimics fried food (without all the grease).

I personally use this Ninja MAX XL Air Fryer because it hold 5.5 quarts, which is more than most. It has worked great so far and we just love how easy it is to use!

Ingredients
The full list of ingredients and amounts is included in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Any brand of frozen pierogies work here. Choose the ones you like the most.
For the onion, a yellow or white onion will work the best, however, the onion is totally optional.
Any spray oil will work. I personally like this avocado oil spray. but actually prefer to melt some ghee and use this spray bottle for it.
Step By Step Instructions
Spray the bottom of the air fryer lightly with the oil.
Place the pierogies in the air fryer in a single layer (you will cook in 2-3 batches) and spray with the oil.
Cook for 5 minutes at 340F degrees. Take out, shake, and place back in the air fryer and cook another 5 minutes.
Repeat for additional batches.
**If you want crispier pierogies, you can cook at 400F degrees for 8 minutes, shaking halfway through.
Pierogies are a great starter for dishes like this Instant Pot ground beef stroganoff, paprika schnitzel, creamy beef stroganoff, Instant Pot paprika chicken or these crispy breaded pork cutlets.
How to Make Onions in the Air Fryer
Slice the onions thinly and spray them with oil - toss to coat. Cook them on 300F degrees for 5 minutes, remove and shake.
Cook for another 7-10 minutes, until softened and slightly browned. Serve the on top of the pierogies.
Expert Tips
- Keep the pierogies in a single layer so they cook evenly. Cook them in batches if necessary.
- I always recommend shaking the basket halfway through as it helps prevent any sticking that may occur (I haven't had any sticking issues at all yet).
- If you want crispier pierogies, you can cook at 400F degrees for 8 minutes, shaking halfway through.
Can You Make Pierogies Without Oil?
You can leave the spray oil out of this if you'd prefer. The surface of the air fryer is nonstick so you shouldn't have any issues.

Tried this out today, and all the perogies burst and stuffing came out. Am I doing something wrong, please help. Other then that they came out awesome.
Danielle
Hmmm, I haven't had that happen before. I recommend reducing the time - after the first 5 minutes, keep checking them every minute and take them out if they look like they're getting ready to burst. Let me know if that works!
