Learn how to make the most delicious air fryer potstickers using frozen potstickers and a homemade Chinese dumpling sauce! They are ultra easy to make and ready in under 15 minutes from start to finish.
Don't get me wrong, I am all about making your own potstickers, but it is time consuming and sometimes you just want a delicious appetizer (or meal) on the table in a few minutes.
And that's what these air fryer potstickers are...food that's on the table in mere minutes - like when you make these air fryer crab cakes, air fryer pierogies or air fryer frozen meatballs too (some of my favorites!).
They are perfect served alongside this soy sauce chicken, kung pao chicken, Chinese fried rice and Sichuan green beans for the perfect Chinese takeout meal!
And if you find a brand you really love, they can be amazing. Plus, serve them with the homemade Chinese dumpling sauce that only takes a couple minutes to make, and you've got some pretty delicious food.
In under 15 minutes. Can't argue with that logic in my opinion.

What is an Air Fryer?
The Air Fryer is a healthier alternative to frying foods. It's basically a small, powerful convection oven that sits on your countertop.
It circulates hot air around the food you're cooking, which is what gives it that crisp texture that mimics fried food (without all the grease).

I personally use this Ninja MAX XL Air Fryer because it hold 5.5 quarts, which is more than most. It has worked great so far and we just love how easy it is to use!

Ingredients
The full list of ingredients and amounts is included in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Any frozen potstickers (gyoza) will work for this recipe. I like to buy pork and vegetable, but shrimp and pork, vegetable, chicken, etc. all will work.
Use a good quality spray oil (not PAM or equivalent) to avoid damaging the air fryer. I like to use this oil sprayer and fill with my favorite oil.
Sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds add a wonderful nutty quality to the dumpling sauce.
Chinese black vinegar is a very traditional dipping sauce for dumplings. it's also known as Chinkiang or Zhenjiang vinegar and can be found at most Asian markets. It tastes slightly fruity, but much less sweet than a balsamic vinegar.
The ginger cut in ultra thin matchsticks infuse the dipping sauce with a fresh ginger bite.
Step By Step Instructions
Lightly spray the bottom of the air fryer with oil.
Place the frozen potstickers in a single layer in the air fryer and spray with oil. It's ok it they touch, but don't stack them on top of each other.
**without the oil, the potstickers will be dry.
Cook for 10-12 minutes at 375F degrees, removing the basket and shaking halfway through. They should be golden brown on top.
Serve with Chinese dumpling sauce (below). I also really love them served with this nuoc cham for a more Vietnamese style dish.
How to Make Chinese Dumpling Sauce
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
Can be stored in the fridge for several weeks.
Expert Tips
- Don't thaw the potstickers before cooking - cook them straight from frozen.
- The second batch may cook faster than the first, so check on them periodically to avoid overcooking them.
- You can also toss the potstickers with oil in a bowl before adding to the air fryer.
- For a healthier option, eliminate the oil (note your potstickers will be dry).
- Add 1-2 teaspoons of chili oil to the dipping sauce for some spice.
- Let the sauce sit for 10 minutes before serving so the ginger flavor has time to infuse it. Can also be made in advance.
Frequently Asked Questions
They cook for a total of 10-12 minutes. Cook them for 5 minutes, remove the basket and shake, then cook another 5-7 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Definitely! It's one of the things the air fryer is best at. These potstickers, along with these frozen pierogies, are great cooked straight from frozen.
I wouldn't recommend it as it can damage the basket with the chemical it contains. I recommend using an oil sprayer and using a good quality oil inside.
Another thing the air fryer is great at! Cook them for the recommended time with the recommended spray oil and they will come out golden brown on top and crispy.
