Why This Recipe Works
Air Fryer Sausage Links cook evenly. Have you ever had a link that's burnt on the outside but raw in the middle? Or one that's cooked through but not crispy? Air frying ensures that your links will be cooked evenly all the way through, so you'll get that perfect bite every time.
They're low-maintenance. Unlike grilling or stovetop cooking, you don't have to closely watch air fryer sausage links. Set the timer and walk away, they'll be ready when you are.
Sausage links are healthy(ish). Let's be real: sausage links will never be healthy food. But air frying them is a healthier option than deep-frying, and since they cook so quickly, you won't be tempted to eat as many. Go ahead and indulge, your air fryer won't judge.

Ingredients
For the full list of ingredients and quantities used, refer to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
You will be using sausage links for this recipe. Any type of sausage link will work, but we recommend using high-quality links made with fresh ingredients.
Next, you'll need hot dog or sandwich buns. You can use any type of bun, but we recommend using fresh buns that are soft and fluffy.
We use mustard and ketchup on our sausage links, but feel free to use whatever sauces you prefer. You can also add any other toppings that you like, such as cheese or onions.
Sliced onions and peppers are great for adding extra flavor and texture to your sausage links. You can also add them to the buns before cooking the sausage links, if you prefer.
Step by Step Instructions
Place the sausage links in the air fryer basket and cook at 375F degrees for 10 minutes, shaking twice during cooking to flip them over.
Remove and serve on buns with condiments.
Serving options
There are SO MANY different ways you can use these sausages:
- Serve on buns with mustard, ketchup, sauerkraut, sautéed onions and peppers, jalapenos, or pickled peppers.
- Slice them up and use them in fried rice, cheese grits, sausage quiche, seafood rice, or cajun pasta.
- Serve them for breakfast with sous vide poached eggs, sous vide scrambled eggs, air fryer breakfast potatoes, air fryer hash browns, and/or air fryer biscuits.
Expert Tips
- Be sure to check the links as they cook. They will look done on the outside, but you need to make sure that they’re cooked all the way through before you take them out of the air fryer.
- Use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of the sausage links. This is one of the most accurate ways to tell if your sausage links are done all the way through.
- Make sure the air fryer is clean and preheated before cooking your sausage links. This will help reduce the risk of any food contamination or cross-contamination.
- Try to avoid overloading the air fryer with too many links at once. This can slow down the cooking process, so be sure to cook them in batches if necessary.
- Cooking times may vary depending on the type of air fryer you’re using and the brand of sausage links that you choose.
Common Questions
You can cook almost any type of link sausage, from mild breakfast sausages to spicy jalapeno cheddar brats, in your air fryer. Just check the cooking time and temperature for each individual sausage variety to ensure that you don’t overcook or undercook your links.
To cook sausage links in an air fryer, begin by preheating the appliance at the recommended temperature for the type of sausages you are cooking. Next, place a single layer of links inside the air fryer basket and cook for the recommended time, flipping once halfway through. Then, serve the cooked sausages immediately or store them in an airtight container for future use.
This will depend on a few factors, including the size and thickness of the links, as well as the length of time you are cooking them. A good rule of thumb is to use at least one full package of sausages to fill up a single layer in your air fryer basket.
If you want to cook many more sausages than this at once, be sure to add additional batches to the air fryer and follow the recommended cooking times for each.
Once your sausages are fully cooked, it is best to serve them immediately while they are still hot and crispy on the outside.
Storage Instructions
If you plan on using the sausage links right away, it's best to store them in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the fridge. This will help keep your sausage links fresh and prevent them from drying out or getting freezer burned.
You can freeze your air fried sausage links for later use. To do this, place the cooked sausages in a zip-top freezer bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you're ready to use them, let the sausages thaw completely before cooking them as usual.
Some people prefer to store their air fried sausage links in the fridge or freezer and then cook them directly from frozen. To do this, simply place the sausages in your air fryer, cover with a sheet of parchment paper, and cook for 3-5 minutes, checking regularly to ensure they are not burning.
