If you feel about blue crabs the same way I feel about blue crabs then you have got to try out LP Steamers in Baltimore, MD. Take a train, take a plane, take an automobile, just GET THERE and get you some of the most amazing fresh steamed blue crabs!
If you've never been to Baltimore before, it's a super cool place to check out. I'm in love with the old cobblestone streets, the historical rowhomes and of course the FOOD!
And if you're going to get fresh blue crabs in Baltimore, you've got to go to LP (Locust Point) Steamers. They have got the best fresh steamed blue crabs with Old bay seasoning.
But before I go on, I'm not going to claim to have eaten at all the crab spots in Baltimore. So if you've got one you've been to that is amazing, drop it in the comments below. It'll give me an excuse to go back to Baltimore.
That's tax deductible right? It's business research....
What to Order at LP Steamers
Well, given they have the best crabs in Baltimore, get the steamed blue crabs. There are 4 different sizes of blue crabs, small, medium, large and jumbo. Definitely go with either the large or jumbo. We went large and did not regret it.
The small and medium blue crabs will still be tasty, but you just don't get as much bang for your buck. See, size does matter.
I would recommend 6 large crabs per person if you're looking for a full meal. The boyfriend and I had 3 each because we were doing a lighter lunch given the multiple food comas we had already experienced during this trip.
The crabs are steamed and served coated with a healthy amount of Old Bay seasoning. if you've never had Old Bay before, you are in for a treat! It's one of my favorite seafood seasonings (see me use it in this awesome Maryland Crab Cake recipe).
The crabs come with a small fork and a mallet. I'll be honest, I've eaten a lot of crab in my life, but I've never had whole blue crabs. The boyfriend and I were a little lost, but the waitress saw us struggling and was quick to come show us how it was done.
It's not hard guys. And it's fun. make sure you set aside some time, because it's not your quick 30 minute meal.
LP Steamers has more than crabs too. We ordered some fried clam strips because I have this extreme amount of love for clam strips. For some reason, they are hard to find in San Diego.
They serve your typical starters such as hush puppies (which I've heard are amazing), Old Bay fries, crab soup, and salad (I don't know who orders salad here but to each his own).
They've got a variety of fried seafood, sandwiches like the fried oyster po'boy and soft shelled crab, and of course a vast selection of steamed seafood.
I love that they also serve local oysters for only $2 a piece!! Maybe that's not a deal for you guys, but I've become accustomed to paying $4 each for oysters on the West coats, which is outrageous!
All in all, I am in love with this place. It was hands down our favorite food experience during our whole trip.
So if you're in Baltimore, don't forget to try out LP Steamers for the best crabs in Baltimore!

I can't wait to take a trip up to New England! I have been looking forward to eating seafood there for quite some time 🙂 LP Steamers was a pretty awesome place, and Baltimore was such a cool city (at least in this Californian's eyes!).
